The Resort

We took a little vacation over Memorial Day weekend to attend a wedding in Mesa, AZ. I decided we should have a little fun and booked us into the J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge since they have a fun "lazy river" pool and slide. It's a beautiful property and great for families.

The J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge has a fantastic herb and vegetable garden. The harvest is used in their restaurants.

 

 

Jonas found little silver styrofoam beads in the lawn used in some sort of decoration from the night before.

Annular Eclipse in Tucson, AZ - 20 May 2012

We invited friends with kids over to play in the pool since the eclipse event for us would not start until about 5:30 pm. It would be around 100 degrees outside so the kids had fun splashing while we took turns peering through the glasses and eating pizza.

The Missing Parts and the Maynard's Farmers Market

This was supposed to be a post with pictures from Dillinger Days at Hotel Congress. However, I'm going to leave those photos to my good friend Warren. That's because we arrived just as the reenactments began, replete with very loud (tommygun?) gunfire. My 4-year old son promptly decided that we were not going to hang around Congress and so we went across the street to the Farmer's Market at Maynards to hide from the "bandits".

So instead I did some shooting of my own, in particular, this band called The Missing Parts. I'll readily admit to being a sucker for any music involving a cello and the lap steel guitar is seriously bad ass. They are an acoustic quartet with a style that I can only describe as a fusion of fantastic mixed cultural sound. I wanted to stay and listen some more but my boys had wandered off through the market to the Train Museum and I wanted to catch up.

Of course it was not all music. There were things to buy too.

I dare you to resist these.

This baker had gluten-free yummies made with mesquite flour.

January 2, 2012 in Tucson. It was around 68 degrees at 6 pm this evening. Did we need a fire in the Kiva? Of course!

Pinkie the Mouse

My son wanted me to make him a little amigurumi mouse. I had started an amigurumi elephant for his preschool class (remember Shaba?) but he insisted I finish the mouse first.

The kitty is Pinkie's buddy named Chibi. The pumpkin was named Jack. Ah kids.

This weekend, my son's preschool class elephant named Shaba came home with him. We took him to the Farmer's Market on Sunday.
